I believe CPQ is putting pressure on HP: December 8, 1997: 1:04 p.m. ET NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Hewlett Packard Co. said Monday it is cutting the price of its Vectra VL business workstation line by up to 8 percent and is slashing the cost of memory upgrades by up to 22 percent, effective immediately. After the cuts, an HP Vectra VL computer with a 166-megahertz Pentium processor, 16 megabytes of random access memory and a 1.6-gigabyte hard drive will cost $984, down from $1,074. The price of an HP Vectra VL PC with a 200-megahertz Pentium processor, 2.5-gigabyte hard drive, 32 megabytes of random access memory, 24-speed CD-ROM and 16-bit sound card was cut to $1,388 from $1,495. Hewlett Packard said the price cuts are an effort to bring computers using Intel's new Pentium II microprocessor into the mainstream.
