Crown Plaza Laundry System is 2 Weeks Away From Operation!!!

Greetings Shipmates,

I managed to crawl out of my bunk, after a battle with Sandie's cold bug, to call the Crown Plaza Ravinia (sp?) in Atlanta. The laundry system installation is progressing smoothly, with a few minor delays. The system is expected to be operational prior to the New Year. Hopefully, by February, the Crown Plaza will have enough system data to determine the cost effectiveness of the system.

Important concerns for both Cyclopss and the Crown Plaza are:

a. The Crown Plaza must ensure the workerbees in the laundry room/area are properly trained and understand how to operate the system. Sometimes the folks operating the equipment do not have the privilege of knowing how to read or speak english. I say this because some of the young men that I have served with fall into this category. Systems that require fairly accurate chemical mixtures and must be monitored need to have people that are trained to operate them. This is a paradigm shift for those who are used to just dumping in soap and bleach. Failure to supervise the operators during this initial phase of operation and first few months is critical in the acceptance of a new system.

b. The Crown Plaza should have technical and operational support during the installation of the equipment and the operational/acceptance testing phases.

c. The Crown Plaza should have periodic checks of the system performed by company reps to ensure the system is operating as designed. Courtesy visits by the company reps will do much to foster client confidence.

d. Failure to follow some of Demming's basic processes can and will lead to results that will prove detrimental to the initiatives of the company. This system is the prototype...flagship for the Cyclopss as far as Crown Plaza is concerned. If the system is not monitorred continuously, by alert operators, it will most likely fail within 3 to 6 months. Chemical balance will not be maintained because operators will become complacent causing the linen to discolor and become damaged...dollars could be lost by the hotel. The operators will become frustrated if technical support is not provided or periodic spot checks not performed. The ozone system will be turned off and the desire for future systems will be lost as well.

I offer these suggestions based upon observation concerning systems that have been installed on ships that I have served on where technical support was not provided or was time late. The sailors, including myself, couldn't get some of the systems to operate as the companies said they would. They ultimately were turned off...evaluated as poor...with a complete technical evaluation provided to our boss with a negative endorsement provided.

I also talked with another Crown Plaza Hotel in Atlanta, two months ago, who were getting their butt kicked by their ozone system for some of the reasons cited above. Cyclopss was not involved in the installation of the system. However, the other company's failure to provide adequate support of the project has compromised, in my opinion, the likelihood of future installations of ozone systems in their hotel.

I know that some company employees read this thread. This post is primarily targeted for them. Good luck with the install.

GO OZONE!!!!!!!!!!
