Respond to of 217706 The all-encompassing experiment on which we are embarked is the development of a world with no externality. <invest in your homestead to the point of self-sufficiency that you no longer care that the rest of the world is going to hell. > It's not possible to live outside the physically globalized realm of Cyberspace. Even a hoe for the homestead will be made in China. The steel smelters in Pittsburgh shut last century. A few isolationist countries have tried to be independent but they were not. Individuals within countries are stuck inside the machine. It's the teleological trend and just as humans went through the Malthusian red in tooth and claw filtering process for umpteen millennia [sorting humans out from chimps], we are now going to go through the Globalized Cyberspace filtration process which includes genetic selection and engineering, which is already done by women but not on a scientifically informed basis. They will wish to continue that process. . That process is already a normal medical service though at present it's aimed at disease exclusion such as cancer gene removal. When Greece or Syria crash, people become economic or political refugees, fleeing to anywhere they can. When Cyberspace crashes or Cyberwars break out, which is the same thing near enough for government work, there's no externality. The old physical production and distribution mechanisms have been dismantled as anachronisms so we will not be able to switch to snail mail to order things on-line which won't be deliverable anyway due to physical conflicts and breakdown. Given the history of people, such crashes in the process seem inevitable, but maybe not. Maybe the Major Paradigm Shift has happened and we'll sail beautifully into the future without a shipwreck. Some doubt that and say, Get Gold, Pile Platinum, Stack Silver ready to try to ride out the dark interregnum. Hide stashes in various places. Your local safe deposit box in a local bank is not hiding it. Shift happens, Mqurice
