Rex,

You had asked about pricing of the digital cameras from the table I produced
previously. There are so many feature options avaiable that it is hard to break
down the pricing as attributable to the type of storage technology however I can
provide the following table of memory prices that I have compiled:

Size SmartMedia CompactFlash ATA
$ $ $
2MB 99.00h
4MB 49.95t 55.00k1, 72.95n, 89.95s, 60.00p, 72.95n, 99.00m
99.00m, 109.00m, 149.00h
79.00k
5MB N.A. 249.00r
8MB N.A. 99.95n, 110.00k1, 129.95s, 82.00p, 99.95n, 139.00m
139.00m, 149.00m
10MB N.A. 149.95s, 179.00k, 299.00h 349.00r
12MB N.A. 129.95n 129.95n, 135.00p, 179.00m
15MB N.A. 179.95s, 229.00m
16MB N.A. 155.00k1, 169.95n 169.95n, 219.00m
20MB N.A. 339.00m 185.00p, 199.95n,
259.00m, 599.00r
24MB N.A. 235.00k1, 269.95n 429.00m
30MB 479.00m
32MB N.A. 295.00k1, 349.95n 235.00p, 329.95n
40MB N.A. N.A. 295.00p, 399.95n, 439.00m
64MB 445.00p, 599.00m
80MB

I think the table kind of says it all! Here are some links to some vendors/manufacturers pages:

k - Kodak Compact Flash Cards webs.kodak.com
k1 - Kingston Compact Flash Cards kingston.com
k2 - Kingmax ATA Flash Cards kingmax.com
k2 - Kingmax CompactFlash Cards kingmax.com
k2 - Kingmax SmartMedia Cards kingmax.com
m - Magicram Cards magicram.com
n - noname, from a mail order catalogue - no manufacturers name given
p - Pretec ATA Flash Cards pretec.com
p - Pretec Compact Flash Cards pretec.com
r - Ricoh - web site was not available when I was compiling the list
s - Sandisk Compact Flash Cards sandisk.com
t - Toshiba SmartMedia Specs toshiba.com
t - Toshiba SmartMedia Cards toshiba.com

Some notes:

1) Magicram has both 3.3V and 5V CF cards in 4 and 8MB sizes - 3.3V is more
expensive.

2) The CF - pcmcia adaptor costs ~$20 and is included in the cost of the
Sandisk cards but not most of the others (some were none specific)

3) Pricing for the SmartMedia cards is much less available and I only found one
price for the Smart Media - pcmcia adaptor - a whopping $99.00 (PC Connection
mail order catalogue). I did not find a price (or technical details) of the mythical
floppy adaptor for this technology.

4) Toshiba has specs for the 8MB SmartMedia card but I could not find a price
for one.

Gary

Sandisk takes a hit in the PR dis-information WAR. Iomega is featured on page A29 of the 12/9/97 issue of Investors Business Daily. The article claims that flash cards can only include a dozen photos. The article also says that flash cards costs several hundred dollars. Sandisk is not mentioned in the article (Bad PR)! CLIK is winning mindshare of non-techie digital camera wanna-have.
