Inode,
I'm intentionally excluding the bogus WHO claim that 100 people died in the US in 2004 due to starvation as it is obviously is not factual.
Only 100? In a country with a population of 300 million?

iNode, there are about 8 million people living in America below the poverty level. I am amazed to see there are now growing charities devoted to feeding the hungry in America.

We need a better solution than what is now offered to these people. I worked in the de-institutionalization movement that was initiated 40 years ago and we did an amazing job of integrating people with disabilities into mainstream culture. One area that was not successful was people with chronic debilitating conditions like schizophrenia, depression, addiction and such. Some such people are living successfully in some sort of supportive living situation, while large numbers are not. Large populations of people who could get by on government welfare don't because of conditions such as this. We are stuck here in a dilemma. These people won't or can't cooperate with government welfare programs and we have no means to force them into a program that will provide for them and help them to live a more dignified life. What responsibility do we have?

My answer (no one I've met agrees) is to re-institutionalize a support system for people who are homeless by choice, whether demonstrated by continued poor decision making or deliberate obstinance. Assign a court appointed conservator and a social services Case Manager, problem solved.

Keep in mind, the left doesn't give a damn about the 100.

They're only props in the means to an end....

>> So your saying its better to let people, many of whom are your neighbors, to starve to death. Is that the message you're trying to convey?

Do you have a link to a news article about someone starving to death in the US because of poverty?

You cut off food stamps and there will be lots of people going hungry. People don't stand it line for food for the fun of it.

But not to worry.........the scheme the Rs are setting up are to get the feds out of food stamps and put it on the states. And that's fine with me......lots more food stamp users in red states. You guys will be paying directly for their food and leaving me out of it. ;)
