So does the difference between HEALTH and SAFETY mean that if it's a health issue, the government should do something about it, and if it's a safety issue, it shouldn't?
My original question was why the CDC should have any say in the issue of gun violence. After all, the only "health" issue here is the fact that a bullet can kill, and that is not in dispute.

Other government agencies are supposed to deal with public safety. FBI, ATF, etc. They can fund their own studies on the impact of gun violence and its implications.

It may sound like I'm arguing semantics here, but I'm a firm believer in the concept of separation of powers (and not just that related to the three branches of government).
