So when Dr. Prabhjot Singh decided he would stroll through his neighborhood Saturday night, he figured he was safe. After all, he said to Huffington Post about his Harlem neighbors: “It’s one thing to be told in the news or in a book that a community is not as dangerous as you thought they were. But it’s completely another thing to know somebody personally. Understanding really comes from deeper engagement.” And no one was more deeply engaged that Dr. Singh. Then four blocks from Malcolm X Boulevard, Dr. Singh met up with 20 black people on bikes. According to the NBC affiliate in New York: “I heard ‘Get Osama’ and then ‘terrorists,’ and then the next thing I felt was someone moving past me, ripping at my beard and then hitting me in the chin.” He ran. They chased him and knocked him down and beat him some more. “Singh said he thought he could have died if passersby hadn’t intervened to help fight off the more than dozen young men who jumped him.” They broke his jaw. Kicked out a few of his teeth. And all that. Dr. Singh is a Sikh, a faith where members wear distinctive turbans and beards. But this mob thought he was a Muslim and taunted him for that. Not knowing that Muslims and Sikhs are long and bitter rivals. Black mobs routinely terrorize cities across the country, but the media and government are silent. Read the detailed account of rampant racial crime in “White Girl Bleed A Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It.” After the attack, he wondered why anyone would bother him: He is, after all, an American and a member of the Harlem community. He said on MSNBC: Singh’s priority now is to continue his work as a doctor in his East Harlem community, he said. “This is not the Harlem I know,” he said. “If anything, [this experience] makes me more committed to our community and the work we do there.” Last year, he wrote an op-ed for the New York Times saying the biggest danger of hate crimes to Sikhs was from white racism. He cited that six times in one article: “There is also the question of whether white supremacist groups have specifically targeted American Sikhs,” Singh said. His commentary was in response to the killing of six Sikhs in Wisconsin by a neo-Nazi. But in Harlem that Saturday night, there was nary a white face to be found. Besides his, that is. Police released surveillance video that showed the attackers were black. But the same man who relentlessly condemned white racism for violence against Sikhs all of the sudden became circumspect about the race of his attackers. And eager to explain it away. When Lamont Hill from the Huffington Post asked him to describe the assailants, Singh said: They were young men. Probably from the neighborhood. Certainly not reflective of the neighborhood I’ve come to know and work in. It was dark. They seemed like they were young African-American men. But again, it was dark. No one has been arrested.

Report: British former Marine armed with handgun saved as many as 100 people during Kenyan mall attack (lib media will ignore this guy, Obama will never speak his name) Details are thin, but I figure that if the Daily Mail gets enough traffic from various sites for this story, they’ll have to flesh it out in a follow-up. If they’re willing to run shameless click bait like this, they’ve got to be willing to run worthwhile traffic bait about a British vet heroically defying jihadis to stage a one-man rescue, no? One man, one gun, hundreds of people in fear for their lives. Here we go: With a gun tucked into his waistband, he was pictured helping two women from the complex… The former soldier is said to have returned to the building on a dozen occasions, despite intense gunfire. A friend in Nairobi said: ‘What he did was so heroic. He was having coffee with friends when it happened. ‘He went back in 12 times and saved 100 people. Imagine going back in when you knew what was going on inside.’ Sources said the soldier was in the Royal Marine and now lives in Kenyan. He cannot be named for security reasons. The British military regularly train and operate out of Kenya, and have been involved in tracking UK citizens involved with hardline Islamists in Somalia and Yemen. There’s a photo of him at the link, face blurred to protect his identity. One surprisingly ambiguous detail: Was he forced to engage the jihadis with fire or was he able to do this stealthily, in parts of the mall where there were no terrorists around at the moment? The fact that they went out of their way to mention he was armed makes me think, yeah, he must have drawn on them at some point, but the Mail never explicitly says so. If they manage to track him down for an interview, they should ask if he would have gone back inside as often as he did if he wasn’t armed. Maybe he would have — he’s a Royal Marine, after all — but having some means of defense must have been a comfort. Naturally he didn’t want to end up in a gun battle with people armed with AK-47s, but if it came to that, he wasn’t a sitting duck. One other odd detail: The ringleader of the attack might be a woman and British herself — and the widow of London bomber Germaine Lindsay to boot. I’d never heard of her until today, but a cryptic allusion by Kenya’s foreign minister to a British woman who’s engaged in terrorism “many times before” has some counterterror analysts believing that the lead suspect here is Samantha Lewthwaite. Also among the attackers, per the foreign minister, are “two or three Americans.” Over to you, FBI.

Greenville Wal-Mart Shooter Picked Victims By Race GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A man who shot four people near a Greenville Wal-Mart in June picked out his victims because they were white, according to several indictments handed down against him. Lakim Faust had more than 100 rounds of ammunition when he started shooting at people at a law firm and a shopping center in June, authorities said. A grand jury indicted Faust on 14 charges Monday, including four counts of attempted first-degree murder. Faust, who is black, picked out his victims based on their race, according to the indictments. The documents didn’t specify why Faust wanted to shoot white people, and police have not talked about why he picked out his targets. Police said Faust’s first victim on June 21 was an insurance adjustor in the parking lot of a law firm. He then crossed a five-lane highway and shot three more people in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart, investigators said. Three of the four people wounded in the shooting suffered permanent and debilitating injuries, according to the indictments. Details of those injuries were not specified. Faust, 23, was shot by police. He recovered and is now in jail. Police seized computers and documents from Faust’s home that showed he had a plan for the attack and wanted to shoot a large number of people, investigators said.
