Bag tax won't be hard on poor people, because Mexico and stuff. ========================= City Councilman Tries (and Fails) To Defend Denver Bag TaxMonday night, the Denver City Council voted to give initial approval to the 5-cent bag tax – er fee. Another hearing on the issue will be held later this month. The idea behind the tax is to “change consumer behavior” and convince people to bring their own reusable bags by forcing them to pay a 5-cent tax if they don’t. But it’s their choice. Right. The measure has created quite a bit of controversy and Mayor Michael Hancock has even indicated he’s likely to veto it if it comes across his desk. One of the worst problems with the proposed tax is the impact the tax could have on low-income residents and seniors who already have enough to worry about without paying an extra 5-cents per plastic bag every time they buy groceries. City Councilman Paul Lopez says there’s no need for poor people to worry and it’s stupid to assume that they aren’t on-board with this tax. Why? Because people in Mexico take their own bags when grocery shopping – even when they ride the bus! Wow! Councilman Lopez’ logic seems to be that if it works for some people in Mexico it will be awesome here in Denver. Um, no. The assumption that a policy, or social standard, in one place can be instantly translated to another is bizarre at best, but the assertion that poor people here would be fine with something because people in a different country do it is . . . well kind of offensive both to poor in Denver and people in Mexico. But thanks, Councilman Lopez, for informing us about the reusable bag culture in Mexico. youtube.com

The Dems , especially Reid and Obama toss total nonsense to their base which is for the most part a group of knee jerks who have been trained to react as if whatever was said is true and of course rattles their sensibilities. They have been told they are brighter because they believe in double speak, lying and at all costs don't question authority of their party. Yet they still believe they are the ones who hail from the 60s "question authority movement". Yes they can have it both ways or many ways as long as they swallow the spoon fed propaganda.
