kjude and E. Graphs,

From December issue of Multimedia Monitor.

This might be old news. There is a start-up Castlewood Systems that has developed a 2.1 GB product named ORB that reads 3 1/2" media and uses magnetic technology. Limited shipments next month, ramp-up
expected Q1 of 98. I think Syed Iftikar is involved with this company. One plus for ORB technology could be 12.2 MBps data rate and (MR) head technology.

Market Trends. DISK/TREND predictions for rewritable media vendors (of which Iomega has the lion's share of the market):

8.9 M high-capacity flopp drives shipped this year, reaching ~27M by year 2000.

1.9 M rigid disk cartridge drives this year, and 5.5 M by year 2000.

In-Stat: "...PC makers will be leery of including next-generation DVD drives in their product plans even when prices drop because of standards uncertainties."
