SNAP .. reminds me of something funny that happened to me yesterday . . . . I am now doing work in a new state (from MD to OH). I stopped into a convenient store last night and got a Big-Gulp and some donuts (dinner). When I went to pay, I noted that my total was the exact cost of the items added up .. i.e. No Tax was added. Since I was in a new state and was from Maryland where everything is taxed as much as possible, I asked: so, are there no taxes "on food" in Ohio ?? (I grew up in Florida where sales tax was excluded from food). The cashier's answer: there's no tax for stuff bought with Food Stamps. ME: "um, I paid with cash" HER: " . . . . . . . . " <a long silence> HER: "well, everyone buys everything with food stamps so we just don't charge sales tax for anything" ME: "OK, have a nice day" . . . as I quickly left before being chastised by the lurkers as the weird guy who paid with cash! Another example of becoming a country of welfare citizens.
