King is the epitomy of the Rockefeller Republican, a country club RINO. Until January of this year when he was redistricted to the 3rd district, King represented the 2nd New York congressional district, which encompasses one of the wealthiest locales in the world, the North Shore of Long Island. The gold coast is where the heads of all the major New York based banks and financial corporations largely live.

King is on his way out anyway. His new district is heavily Democratic and he'll likely lose in next year's general election because he has a "R" by his name.
