I had a chess-playing buddy, a very good one, an expert level chessplayer, that went nuts. I'd be playing speed chess with him at his apartment, and he'd suddenly say, "Did you hear that?" with alarm, talking about a TV commercial on TV. Over time, it became clear that he thought that certain TV commercials were referring to HIM, personally, and talking just to HIM. In the insanity biz, these are called "ideas of reference", where a person sees himself in an exalted position in relation to the world, perhaps sees himself as Jesus, or the recipient of knowledge directed to him alone. You're beginning to remind me of him. We had to call his parents finally, who had to have him committed. I haven't heard from him since. I hope he's ok.
