10/4/13 Contest Update
Biotechies, how’s this solution for the government shutdown/debt ceiling imbroglio? The Fed gives us a couple of trillion bucks and we invest it in our favorite biotechs. At a return of 65% a year, the government’s money tsuris would quickly disappear.
Well, actually, 65% is a bit low. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up a remarkable 67.88% YTD (vs. up 65.71% YTD a week ago). Mazel Tov everyone!
Meanwhile, both the Nasdaq Biotech Index, now up 55.10% YTD (vs. up 53.88% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index, now up 26.11% YTD (vs. up 25.24% YTD a week ago) also had decent weeks despite the political theater in D.C.
RKRW’s portfolio put another few points on the board, closing the week with an awesome 163.24% YTD gain. BLADE’s portfolio held on to second place with a 152.55% YTD gain and we have a newcomer in third place, now held by ROBO’s portfolio, up 127.22% YTD.
At Friday's close, 38 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the black with 26 of the 39 beating the NBI.
Since the third quarter ended this week, rather than just posting the usual Top Ten list I’m posting the performance of all Contestants beating the NBI. Also along with the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week, I’m posting the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the year.
Portfolio adjustments: ZLCS 1-6 reverse split
This weekend I’ll be celebrating my second wedding anniversary. And, as biotech investors, I imagine you all have something to celebrate as well. Have fun!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Peace & good health,
Bulba
