I'm quite sure there are a lot of people who recognize exactly what those gestures mean. He should work on his timing a little more so it isn't so obvious. Johnny Carson mastered and masked so well, it hardly showed. Worked it into his "tics." Few people know that he had to have several operations because the septum membrane had all but disappeared.

It's his 'street-swagger' story-telling style. It's all about style. This is how he gets heads nodding and building connection with his audience. This is Obama as 'one of us.' His people start to 'feel' him. Now, before I get labeled racist by saying 'his people' I just mean liberals, democrats, and people wanting the programs he advocates. It's also the people who want open season on Tea-Partiers and conservatives.
