Petz - Re: ". What's wrong with this picture is that AMD and NSM and MOT and IBM can do the same thing. "

Then why haven't they?

They have had ample time.

NSM is older than Intel. IBM is MUCH older than Intel. MOT is MUCH older than Intel. AMD is only 1 year younger than Intel.

Yet today, Intel's CPU manufacturing is the largest by a wide margin - and Intel is the World's largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world - most likely EXPANDING their lead.

All these companies have wafer fabs - yet Intel is the World's largest.

From your description, it is such a simple matter to knock Intel out of business.

Then why haven't they?

Paul

John,

Enough of this 30-44MM CPU's from a good fab. Why can't AMD
pump out a mere 2MM per quarter?

The key must be in the assumption of "good fab". Maybe process? Experience? They've been around for quite some time? Several others, IBM for one have been around longer. Why can't anyone pump em out like Intel?

What is your track record for such statements?

Richard

John: What are you talking about,AMD can't even make a few million K6s to meet the demand. The way you explain it, it looks like one of the easiest thing to do is to make CPUs,and in millions too.May be you are right, but the problem is they all will have to wait untill Intel comes up with proprietary chips and then try to knock off the clones in millions, but who would want them, i wonder.
