I think you are missing the point. If you compare the BLS inflation figures to the way they used to be calculated, when they did NOT include hedonics and substitution, then the older way of calculating inflation figures are much higher. This proves that the BLS numbers are biased to the downside, now that they include hedonics and substitution. This is an objective comparison.

No one sane would say that going from eating veal to eating ground beef at the same price is not a standard of living decrease, and thus, an inflationary outcome. Only folks who live in an ivory tower would say that eating ground beef is the same thing as eating veal.
