The Silver Star Families of America ^ \| 2013 \| Steve Newton Today Steve Newton, the National President of the Silver Star Families of America called the attempted closing of the World War ll Memorial and other national monuments a slap in the face for all veterans and Americans. Newton stated, “It seems to me that as a country we have lost our way. Whether this is due to a lack of moral leadership or a willingness of the government to inflict pain on the American people for political purposes, I don’t really know. But I do know this: If one hair on the heads of our WWll veterans is harmed they won’t have to worry about the government shutdown because they will have every American veteran and many active duty Armed Force members in the streets.” Continuing he stated, “this is beyond any “line” in the sand. This is a promise. These memorials do not belong to the government they belong to the People and especially to those who earned the right by serving this country. I am asking every police officer of whatever jurisdiction to follow their oaths and disobey any unlawful orders to close any memorial. And we will be attempting to identify where those unlawful orders originate.” “I am proud that once more, the greatest generation has shown us the way. When confronted with wrong they simply said no.
