Training Al-Qaeda To Be More Efficient Killers Is Now An Essential Function Of The US Government
10/03/2013 - 13:14

The US government is shut down, which means only essential spending is permitted. So what does the US government, or rather its Central Intelligence Agency decide to spend precious, mission-critical taxpayer money on? Why arming the Qatari-supported Al-Qaeda "rebels" in Syria of course.

WaPo reports that the CIA is expanding a clandestine effort to train opposition fighters in Syria amid concern that moderate, U.S.-backed militias are rapidly losing ground in the country’s civil war, U.S. officials said.... “It’s basic infantry training,” the former U.S. intelligence official said. “How to have some discipline hitting a target, how to reload a magazine, how to clear a room. They’re not marching. They’re learning basic infantry procedures."

So let's get this straight: 800,000 non-essential workers are furloughed, but the CIA, in its infinite wisdom, is now, when the government is shut down, doubling down on spending to make sure Al-Qaeda insurgents have even more lethal training (for that inevitable moment when they turn on their sponsor as they tend to do), and even better weapons?

The World War II Memorial is not a political prop
.........................................................................................
By Ed Rogers, : October 3 2013

There are similarities between how the Obama administration used the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to target its political enemies before the 2012 election and how it is using the World War II Memorial as a stage to discredit Republicans in the battle over the budget.

The executive branch is populated with Democratic partisans and wannabes who take their cues from the White House and who are eager to do Team Obama’s political bidding.

It’s clear that officials at the IRS thought of themselves as political agents who should use their office in furtherance of the president’s political goals. Maybe they had direct instructions from the White House or the Obama reelection team, maybe not. But the White House’s silence as one of its minions pleads the Fifth speaks volumes about the atmosphere it has created and the signal it wants to send. The message from the president is clear: campaign-style politics comes first. The Obama administration sees itself in a no-holds-barred war with Republicans, where the righteousness of the Obama cause means that the rules don’t apply to Obama’s agents.

Team Obama was too ambitious in its play to use the World War II Memorial as a prop in the campaign to blame Republicans for the government shutdown. If you’ve ever been to the World War II Memorial, you know that it is an open space at street level. Under normal circumstances, government personnel have no role in admitting or denying access to the memorial. There are no gates, doors or defined entrance. There is nothing that inhibits anyone from walking through or simply standing on the granite sidewalk that is the memorial. In fact, I’ve always thought that the World War II Memorial looked like what should be a grand entrance to the World War II Memorial, but as it stands, the memorial itself is an open plaza.

Real effort had to be taken and precise instruction had to be given to round up barricades and have them installed in a clumsy, visible way that would block pedestrians from entering the memorial. It was an effort to supply a pathetic visual that would highlight the sad dysfunction of the government in Washington, and obviously blame Republicans. It will be worth knowing – and I hope Congress pursues it – the precise steps that had to be taken through the government’s organization chart to deploy resources to place barricades that would trap American veterans in a photo-op intended to serve the president’s political interest.

Partisan calculations have infected the Obama administration
, where anything and anybody is fair game when it comes to discrediting the president’s opponents and critics.

The stunt at the World War II Memorial was too cute by half, and it will cost the White House. It will be the gift that keeps on giving as social media hums and the pictures the Democrats hoped to use against Republicans backfire as they echo through the Internet.

WWII Memorial Barricade Wired Shut
....................................................................................
Oct 4, 2013 • By JOHN MCCORMACK
weeklystandard.com

On Tuesday morning, seven National Park Service employees were seen erecting and tending to a barricade around the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. One NPS employee was operating a forklift. There usually aren't any NPS employees working at the World War II memorial.

A couple hours later, when an Honor Flight of World War II veterans arrived, accompanied by Democratic and Republican members of Congress, the fences blocking the memorial were easily moved away, allowing the veterans to enter.

But the barriers are still at the memorial, and they've been reinforced. This morning, I walked by the memorial and noticed that wires had been used to tie the fences together:

Who is ordering the National Park Service to go to such great lengths to shut down the open-air World War II memorial that is usually unguarded? On Tuesday, Carol Johnson of the National Park Service told me that the White House's Office of Management and Budget "sends everything down to all other departments. We are part of the Interior. Interior gives us our instructions."

McAfee Antivirus founder: “What idiot put this system out there?”
October 3, 2013
by Erika Johnsen

Whatever other — ahem — eccentricities antivirus software company founder and technology mogul John McAfee may have, I think we can at least safely conclude that the man knows his stuff when it comes to online security, and he is decidedly not impressed with the setup of the many separate yet intertwining systems flying under the banner of ObamaCare. Divorcing his criticisms from the underlying purpose of the law itself, McAfee ripped ObamaCare’s technological arrangement and worried that all of its huge moving parts will make it a perfect environment for hackers to steal Americans’ identities, personal information, and money.

The massive consolidation of so much of Americans’ sensitive data has been the prime concern of several lawmakers trying to secure a delay in the system’s implementation, but of course, their quest to make sure the system actually works and that Americans’ information is secure before putting it to an arbitrary political deadline isn’t welcome in the ranks of the Obama administration.
