<<Dallas, TX and San Jose, CA, May 6, 1997 -- GTE and Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced a relationship that will build an end-to-end service network which will enable GTE to rapidly deploy value-added services and drive next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) offerings.>>

<<With regards to the GTE / CSCO relationship, it is Internet Protocol related and not FRAD.>>

Gary,

I am under the impression that an end-to-end service network would include such offerings as voice over FR and IP over FR. The press release mentions Cisco providing WAN ATM switches. Cisco's ATM switches support FR.

<<To support these services GTE will build a national network based on Cisco's Wide Area Network (WAN) ATM switches, high-end routers, and dial access platforms. GTE purchases could reach over $1 billion
of Cisco products for resale as bundled solutions and to support this new national infrastructure over the next five years.>>

Phrases like "end-to-end service network" and "bundled solutions" sound to me like Cisco will not only be supplying the Central Office equipment but also the customer premise equipment.

But your point is well taken. Hopefully FSCX has a niche for its products based on specific customer needs. Unfortunately my quotes screen is telling me otherwise as FSCX tests $3. I expect the MMers will try to take it below $3 in the coming days to really scare some people...
