And of course, as a born again Christian, it gripes the hell out of you that your premium may go up somewhat so that some poor diabetic or cancer patient can now get coverage

You moaning Christian hypocrites are a hoot.....

Wonder if you will have to deal with any of that at the P Gates

What you are insured under is called a "Temporary insurance plan", or a "Short term insurance plan".

1.) Temporary health insurance plans do not cover pre-existing conditions.

2.) Temporary health insurance plans cover each family member to $2 Million (instead of the standard $5 million).

3.) Temporary health insurance plans can only be purchased for up to 1 year and must be re-purchased every 12 months.

They are intended for people who are

  • Between jobs or unemployed
  • A young adult finished with school, or a student no longer covered under a parent's insurance plan
  • An early retiree
  • Waiting for other coverage to begin

You didn't tell me anything new because my plan and my health condition is very similar to yours. But what you didn't have is a situation like mine where we were expecting out first child and 5 months along the way, I decided to change jobs from one major and reputable high tech company to another major reputable high tech company. After I settled in my new job by moving cross country, I was told by my new insurer (Aetna) that they would not cover my wife's pregnancy because as they said "it was a pre existing condition" !!!!!! So that was a death panel type of a scenario since it is the insurance company who decides who lives and who dies when they refuse a pre-existing condition excuse.

So how on earth are these "red faced terrorists" that I call the T party folks going around lying to folks that Obamacare decides who lives and who dies when the insurance companies themselves did that for all these years and fattened the pockets of their CEOs instead of caring for their insureds.

Your premium under Obama care will be as function of your age, income, and the amount of deductibles and copays you choose.

The older one is the better the deal as the AFC system is designed to force young healthy people to sign up and their premiums subsidize older sicker people.

Wow. But my friend, this is the difference between Socialism and Capitalism. Those of you who stay in shape and make the effort are the ones who will subsidize those who eat until their hearts burst from being 400 pounds and unhealthy. If I could make the decisions, I'd put a fat tax on all foods with greater than 1/3 saturated fats, anything with fructose or other sugary syrups in it, ice-cream, fast food, and a whole host of other unhealthy foods. Then I'd use those proceeds to subsidize those who can't afford healthcare. I'd also make sure everyone who wanted healthcare would have to undergo the same physical tests you did, so the healthcare companies could assess their risks and charge them accordingly. For perfectly healthy folks like you, you'd get a lower premium. For folks who had preventable health risks like smokers, 400 pound people, and other things like that, they'd have a higher premium to cover their increased risks of payouts. That might create an incentive for Americans to stop living like someone else is going to cover their irresponsibility.

But we don't like common sense measures like that. Need proof? I guarantee you, someone on this thread will see this post and give me some sob story about the poor so and so who will lose out from having a fat tax imposed on them.

I'll tell you, I'm tired of driving by the local high school on the way to work and seeing that 2/3rds of the kids are fat. This country is out of control on so many levels, it sickens me.
