Cuz I really only see lawyers use that kind of pretzel logic that allows them to be able to twist the meaning of those words into what you think it means. A basic understanding of English would tell you that your definition makes no sense at all. 1. promote does not equal "provide" 2. the first dictionary definition of "welfare" is: a. Health, happiness, and good fortune; well-being. b. Prosperity. So the preamble to the US Constitution is saying that one of the fundamental purposes of the US Constitution/Government is to promote the well being of the people. If, as you suggest, the meaning was to provide financial aid to the people, you would certainly expect to find some reference in the US Constitution, which is the legal part of the document (the preamble is not) which states that the people have granted the government the power to provide financial aid to some people. It's not there. In fact, there are multiple places in the document that contradict just that. Do you not understand that the US Constitution is based on the idea that the Government is derives its power and authority from the People. If the power and authority is not specifically described in the US Constitution, then that power has not been granted by the People to the Government. It's about this time that you should go read the ninth and tenth amendments in the Bill of Rights. My God man, how is it that you can take the second definition of a word (welfare) that is in a mission statement, take it out of context, then completely change the definition of another word (promote) and then assign legal obligation for specific performance? You liberals don't need history lessons, you need to go back and take elementary school English courses.
