There is a tendency that our RW friends often use to appeal to our moral outrage thru selected anecdotes of abuses of programs or systems with which they disagree

It is a tool to attack the appeal of popular social programs

..honed ever since FDR captured the conscience genie and managed to put a social safety net in place in the US

I would not argue that the system is perfect or always fair

Means testing makes sense and should be done

But the strategy to characterize a safety net like Social Security or Obamacare as wealth transfers plays into the overall strategies of repeal

It is classic Republican thinking
