Hi Steven:DEC,CS and IDT were institutional investors in Ipsilon. Ipsilon has specialised in IP cell packet switches. Routers have a N2 problem which can only be solved by either gigabit routers for the large number of addresses they have to learn daily or by IP switches or tag switches. I believe CSCO ,Toshiba and NEC were biased towards Tag switches. Cabletron, DEC and Ipsilon towards the IP switch. Apparently this is great for continous transmissions but is slower for a transmission of the mixed intermittent type. My guess is that as nodes increase the brute force technique of increasing the router size will be expensive and IP switches with tag capability may be the way to go. I doubt CS will sell out their position. This deal could also give CS a chance to form an alliance with NOKIA towards wireless ISP's.
