Z, But aren't conservatives saying that public workers are getting all sorts of things because of unions? There's nothing wrong with unions, but when government starts protecting them and giving them special privileges beyond what the market would provide, that's where they become bad for society. That's the biggest problem with public employee unions. The government is supposed to represent the taxpayers, while the public employee unions are supposed to represent themselves. Yet the government often acts as if they represent the unions themselves. This latest row with the BART unions is an example. BART workers already make well above the median income for Californians, even though it's not clear that their skills are worth that much. That of course is due to the liberal nature of California politics, which more often than not will give unions what they want. Except now, the unions want even more, and even the People's Republic of California is saying "Enough." Tenchusatsu
