zman: right on. I'm no ideologist either. I'm pragmatic and carefully analyze the historical precedent. There are times when a more right-wing approach is required as around 1980, but now we are the exact opposite. 40+ years or so from now it will be again time for a Reagan Revolution.

Much I agree with, but I would differ on whether "austerity" is a reduction of spending - deflationary, or whether if targeted would be a reducton of waste and allow private sector to grow organically vs public sector feeding parasitically off it's host. Can't escape k-wave winter with same policies that got you there in the first place. The chart at the most basic is change in GDP vs change in debt. Ratio is in a long term decline. You don't cure with more debt. Agree on what follows this winter.
