Read the background material yourself and draw your own conclusions. Every chance I get to I say "Do your ownthinking! Do yourown thinking! Doyour own thinking! Do your own thinking! Do your own thinking! Your principles will hold you up!"

Of course, this only works if you have principles.

One of the problems was first described by Plato a couple thousand years ago. He described a world in which the majority could be fooled by shadows into thinking they were seeing reality. In effect the current crop of non-news media such as NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and MSNBC never state the bulk of the facts, they only peddle their leftist opinions while excluding conservative thought.

For most casual "news" consumers there is limited interest in doing their own thinking. There is less interest in doing the reading to determine what the facts are to be able to reach rational decisions. It is easier for them to believe that leftists are telling them the truth. This despite the easy availability of tomes such as "Rules for Radicals" that leftists live by.
