Ted,
Because what you make goes into the pot to determine what are average wages and what income is needed to survive reasonably well in the Bay area. Why is that not obvious to you?

Fair enough, but just a few days ago you were taking credit as a liberal for all of the high-tech money that was flowing into the Bay Area. Now you're pointing out how all of that money just raises the cost of living here.

In any case, BART workers are already making the most out of all transit workers in the state of California. They are also making more than the already inflated "living wage" here.

In a market-based economy, their salaries would be determined by how much it would take to bring qualified transit workers here to the Bay Area and keep them here. Instead, the BART unions want their salaries to be based on how much the commuting public is willing to tolerate strikes.
