This was completely predictable 40 years ago. I know. Wise people back then warned me not to expect to collect a dime of SS. That collapse was inevitable when the boomers started to suck on the system. It's pretty simple demographics.

Interesting website on SS, the Why's, How's, etc.....LOTS to read and links to check....but yes, it was flawed from the beginning. It certainly doesn't help that in 1960 (before legalized abortion) the number of workers contributing to 1 recipient was 5:1....today it is 2.2 to 1....

IMO, this is precisely why so many Dems in power are trying to get new people into the US....First they legalize abortion. Next, they demand we allow illegal aliens to become citizens, who should be able to vote without Picture ID.....and whom should be allowed to meld into the US with no penalty for coming in without documentation.

It is the Democrats who have pushed the rates and the amounts to be received higher and higher...but the Repubs have said multiple times, that without more people contributing to the system, either the amounts received have to be smaller than scheduled, OR people have to work longer before retiring.
