TCI IS UP BIG FOLKS AND I BELIEVE THIS IS WHY.

TCI executive sees Q4 subscriber rise 90,000 plus

Reuters, Tuesday, December 09, 1997 at 11:51

NEW YORK, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Cable TV company
Tele-Communications Inc (NASDAQ:TCOMA) (NASDAQ:LBTYA) expects the number
of subscribers to rise by much more than 90,000 in the fourth
quarter, a senior company executive said Tuesday.
Leo Hindery Jr, chief executive offocer of the company's
TCI Ventures Group affiliate, said the company had expected at
the end of the third quarter that the number of subscribers
would rise by 60,000 to 75,000 in the last quarter of the year.
"Now it's substantially in excess of 90,000," he told a
PaineWebber conference. Tele-Communications had 14.4 million
subscribers at the start of the year and 14.3 at the end of the
third quarter.
Hindery said the increase was caused by renewed emphasis on
marketing and advertising. He also said Tele-Communications
would announce three cable TV partnerships Tuesday night. He
did not provide details.
However, Hindery said 1997 had been the "year of the fix
and the year of the deal and '98 will be the year of delivery
and the year of the alliance."
Hindery said Tele-Communications would be announcing as
well a personnel change and news about cable programming.
He also said rates for subscription would increase in the
"low single digits." The most recent increase in June 1997 was
six percent.
