There is a vast amount of time wasted waiting in crowds for treatment, or suffering at home on a waiting list. Those who can afford it buy their own insurance or simply pay cash on the barrelhead when they want treatment [that's my preferred method].

Sounds bad, but maybe this is closer to a workable compromise than the US system. It sounds like you have a "minimalist" GovCare system - undesirable, unsatisfactory - but functional. Everyone can get basic care (albeit after pain and jumping through hoops) - and yet, people who elect to do so can pay directly, or purchase "upgrades".

Many in the US can't do this, including millions of older people on Medicare. If their doctors accept a single "unapproved" by the government dime, those docs become outlaws. Looks like things are on the way to get worse.

And the fcuking paper garbage - you wouldn't believe it. Over the last few years I lived in a few different states and held a few jobs. It was fun, but every single application for license, hospital privileges, or employment - required filling out hundreds of papers. The only reason it was possible is because my wife made everything super organized, with everything always scanned, etc. Heck, there were times when, going on vacation, we would bring along the printer and a scanner.

Solid state computing is the worst thing that ever happened to trees.
