I had an argument with a friend of a friend over this. But, he says, the sequester reduced the deficit by 20%. Look, I says, you're a dolt that can't see the sequester takes a pipsqueek 2% off the federal budget and merely slows the increase in spending.

It's like trying to play handball on the curtains.
