Centura Team Developer and Centura Web

Manufacturing

WHAT'S NEW IN CTD?

Centura Team Developer 1.1.2 is a maintenance release that includes
all the fixes in PTFs 1 through 3, and omits the Intersolv ODBC DBase
driver. The CTD package also includes the updated Centura Web
Developer CD.

WHAT'S NEW IN CWD?

Besides containing the same bug fixes as CTD, and omitting the same
Intersolv driver, Version 1.1.2 of Web Developer CD has changed so
that Centura Web applications can be deployed without ForeSite. The
ForeSite application server has been replaced by CWD's Web App
Manager. The Web App Manager meets the needs of our Web Developer
customers who need to deploy Web applications. The Web App Manager is
an application server that resides on a server computer. It controls
a pool of Centura Web application processes for each application
service. On request from the Web server interface, the Web App
Manager either selects a running process (if one is available) or
launches one on behalf of the Web server interface. Web App Manager
returns the address of the server process to the Web server interface
and from then on communication flows directly between the Web server
interface and the application service.

The Centura Web App Manager is scalable and handles load balancing,
so if the customer was planning to deploy with multiple PageServers
they can now deploy with multiple Web App Managers. Since the Web App
Manager was always part of the deployment architecture, the method of
writing and administering Web applications will not change. The only
benefits the Web App Manager lacks are the ability to embed CWD
applications within static HTML pages, and the ability to link
directly into a Unix Web server. The Web App Manager runs only on the
NT platform.

The CWD SIM for ForeSite is no longer included in this package;
however, CWD 1.1.2 is compatible with the CWD SIM. If the customer
has already deployed a CWD app with ForeSite and wishes to upgrade
their applications and runtime files to CWD 1.1.2, please let them
know that doing so will not have any effect on the performance of the
CWD SIM or ForeSite.

WHAT ABOUT DEPLOYMENT PRICING?

To deploy applications, customers will need to obtain the Centura Web
Developer Deployment Suite (P/N 62-1041-1102). This is a
license-only package that grants the user permission to install the
Web App Manager on a production machine for purposes of deploying Web
applications. The customer will need a license for every machine on
which he wishes to install a Web App Manager (with unlimited user
access). The price is US $4995.
