I completely disconnected television in 2003. I couldn't stand to watch it anymore. My only regret is not doing so years earlier. The news has essentially become a "political opinions editorial", rather than impartial and unbiased reporting of events.

While you and I may enjoy a healthy debate about politics, I think we would both agree that it is the job of reporters to remain completely unbiased and detached from the stories they report. In contrast, most reporters appear to make themselves part of the story, which is deplorable.

Although I don't watch television, I see enough YouTube clips of Chuck Todd, Rachel Maddow, and Chris Matthews to easily identify the extreme hatred that they hold for conservatives. Rather that reporting the news, they vehemently attack conservatives at every opportunity.

Regarding the prevalent worldviews in the United States today, the Left seems to want a very large and dominant government, full socialism, and tight control over the lives of all. Conservatives want tiny government, freedom, and the liberties guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. From my perspective, the latter view appeals to me, and the former view repulses me. Yet, I fully recognize and acknowledge that roughly half the population has a very different view and favors the tenets of the Left.

Of course, I'm speaking only of the differences between legitimate conservatives and legitimate leftists, which are often distinctly different from Republicans and Democrats. The two political parties have become twin cheeks of the same a$$. They are only out for themselves and completely disconnected from reality.

My comments somewhat explain why I think that balkanization is desirable and inevitable. For example, if a man and his wife had these kind of irreconcilable differences, they would simply get a divorce. Balkanization, while very ugly, has been common throughout recorded history. Is the USA so different and special that it would be spared a breakup, even when considering the extreme and growing discord that we see across the nation?
