Re: Marine Harvest ASA (MNHVF)

No news Elroy that I am aware of -

I sold 16% of my shares at $1.13/share earlier this week. I have noticed above average volume in the stock over the last 90 days. I am still positive over the longer term as it takes 18-24 months for the new fingerlings to make it to market. So, we are seeing the first new crop of salmon since the kill off of a large amount fish due to disease. Overall fish prices are much higher too resulting in better profitability for the company.

Their Asia market is expanding too as China is learning about how tasty and healthy salmon is. As far as the dividend, I believe it is paid annually but as I recall there is some formula that the Board uses when calculating the amount which is based on cash reserves, profitability and debt.

My strategy is to peel off about 10%-15% of my shares over the next few years as the company remains profitable and pays their dividend. This company is in a cyclical industry as prices tend to fluctuate especially input food (ie fish meal) but as the industry matures and their markets expands, the big price changes seen in the past may be less.

This stock is part of my AG basket of stocks where I own several companies that operate in that industry. I have recently started to sell some of my tree farming stocks and moving that money over to LPX a lumber processor. Another fish company I own, OME has expanded their operation to manufacture and produce fish oil gel tablets resulting in a new and expanding (high margin) revenue stream. Therefore, many of these AG stocks have a lot of moving parts and need to be reviewed from time to time to see what management is doing to grow their business. MNHVF is one of these companies especially on how/what they do to control input costs and expand/distribute their processed fish products.
