the top 1% of tax payers pay 38% of all income taxes yet only have a 20% share of total AGI.

WHAT THE TOP 1%, 5%, 10%, 25% and 50% MAKE IN AMERICA
Based on the Internal Revenue Service’s 2010 database below, here’s how much the top Americans make:

Top 1%: $380,354

Top 5%: $159,619

Top 10%: $113,799

Top 25%: $67,280

Top 50%: >$33,048

A flat 15% tax, with no corporate tax, would allow us all to get rich if we wanted to. But will NEVER be passed.

"The top 5% pay 58.66% of the income taxThe bottom 50% pay 2.5% of the income tax."Meaningless numbers. How much of the income do the top 5% have? Urban legend has the top 5% having 95% of the income. If so, they should be paying 95% of the taxes?
Good question. As best I could find in a few minutes of research, the top 5% had about 25% of the total annual income in the US in 2010.
