All that is needed is a trajectory with a supporting structure that can begin to take us there in a systematic way. The effect on the economy would be extremely positive, IMO, and would trigger economic growth in excess of what is taken out of the economy by reductions in government spending. So long as it was kept reasonable.

the only practical way to shrink government is through attrition. Let the government workers die off one by one. As their offices/agencies start to slim down, combine the resources of different agencies until eventually you can eliminate programs without having to fire anybody.
