"But they are worried that they will be blamed for the default." Seems logical, since they're the ones that forced it, the public KNOWS that, and were blaming them. You have to be deep in the (R) echo chamber to not KNOW that! They've got these guys called pollsters, that sample and tell them what the public is thinking about what they do. You seem to believe that they're supposed to act out of ideological belief, like this guy: But, they aren't religious monks, they're politicians! They don't want to die! They want to get re-elected!
