SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1997--3Com Corporation
(Nasdaq:COMS) today announced that Comdata, a leading U.S. provider of funds
transfers to the trucking and gaming industries, has standardized its headquarters
data network on high-speed 3Comr(sic) systems.
The new, high-availability network is
based on ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) 3Com switches and will support 800
users at the firm's headquarters in Brentwood, TN, near Nashville. The 3Com
network also delivers wide area connections to 400 users at two subsidiaries and
three customer service call centers, which authorize truckers' purchases and
gaming patrons' cash advances initiated by the firm's Comchekr card. Founded in
1975, Comdata today has 1900 employees in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the
Caribbean and processes 63 million transactions per year amounting to $7.2 billion.
