They weren't socialists then. Actually, most Americans felt exactly that way until Pearl Harbor. Then, since Japan and Germany were allied, we were in for the whole deal. The Nazis had a lot of support here prior to that.

Lindberg, a national hero, was a big Nazi supporter. Of course, no one knew about any death camps then.
