all i see is consolidation in hospitals. recently another one here had to go from independent to un of penn. i assume the cost of purchasing these large medical machines etc to stay competitive is too much for a smaller independent hospital.

laser surgery, isrg? is a great example. you visit a hospital and ads placed on walls, elevators all showed the new surgery at the hospital. all in an effort to gain new business, patients. philadelphia advertisement is loaded with nj , pa, hospitals selling their latest procedures.

on the other hand i thought i read or someone told me the large boston hospitals refused to take new patients unless they have gone to smaller local clinics , hospitals. this was part of the new medical coverage and an effort to reduce over load on the large boston hospitals.

i expect we see more and more basic exams at cvs , corner clinics before we see a much higher work load on hospital doctors. under obama care we will be forced to go local and perhaps get referral
