We need to keep the can do spirit of immigrants alive. Too many Americans today controlling the dialogue are so ideological and naive be it tea party patriots or bleeding heart liberals. The other 51% is just busy working, going to school, upgrading their house, upgrading their skill set, taking care of parents and kids, trying to better themselves and their families. For better or for worse they don't have time to pay attention to the rhetoric..

This is the wedge issue that Republicans have successfully used to drive moderates out of the Democratic party. The agenda of the left scares the centrists (that's me & you) to death.

It foreshadows a vision of American that doesn't include the values of hard work and thrift that built the middle class. Now I'm still in the Democratic Party because I believe the role of government is to keep the playing field level and to give the working man a chance and to encourage policies that protect women and children and health and safety and to help grow the economy to have decent jobs.

But while I believe in government aid to help people get up the ladder, I don't believe government should do everything for them and promote policies that don't encourage self responsibility. And therein lies the the debate within the Democratic party between its different factions.

The Democrats won't win the Presidency with Hillary Clinton because she is too far from the center (unless she is running against some tea bagger)--if the Democrats want to control government nationally they have to find a way to keep the moderates from leaving its confines.
