many certainly fit the useful idiot description. I am sure that some liberals truly are simply well intentioned but misguided souls. Maybe even most are. But then there are those liberals who are obviously not dumb, but are unable to see their own sickness that allows (forces) them to ignore the obvious contempt for the people to whom they claim to want to help. that's a word that needs to be brought up more. There truly is an underlying contempt for other people who are not like the other middle class democratic socialists. But, though their actions speak the truth, they deny it because it shatters their collectively do-gooder image. They are better than us because they care about the dregs of society. And if we care, they care more. Their delusions of grandeur require them to carry the torch of noblesse oblige. If they are the nobles that they think that they are, then they have to behave like nobles, which includes helping the less fortunate. Of course, they have found a way to meet the obligation without actually getting their hands dirty. By using other people's money to help the less fortunate, they don't actually have to associate with the dregs and still get to smugly celebrate their obvious superiority.
