I watched my whole family sell off their land to pay for medical bills in their old age.
So your complaint is that your whole family payed for their own medical bills and you didn't get to inherit their land?!

Of course you would rather have me pay for medical care of your whole family so you might inherit their land!!

But --- they got their medical care, didn't they? I am happy they did and you should be also. Since I didn't know them, I contributed nothing (according to what you said).Of course, that would make me stupid?

it makes me want to set my hair on fire

But, if you do not manage to control yourself and do set your hair on fire, should that be covered by the insurance we all pay for or will you sell of some of your land to pay the hair burning medical bills?

You cannot get a hip replacement in the ER

Nor can you get an emergency appendectomy in the ER, nor get a finger re-attached in the ER. But you sure can get those things done by appearing in the ER. Neither can you get those services in the hospital insurance/billing department, but if you are patient enough, you can get them done --- covered or not.

I don't know about cancer, but if the effects are acute I'm sure you can get treated not in the ER but by appearing in the ER.
