Their gaffes weren't as bad, but you asked whether Intel would close ranks around execs who made them.

Far from it. That's one reason why Intel execs are extremely careful with what they say. It's all due to history, which included the infamous Pentium FDIV bug and a post that Andy Grove made on the Usenet forums.
