We want to pay for those safety nets as long as it comes out of the other guys pocket - and you know it. Almost everyone I know and most people who post here would be hit quite hard by a much more progressive tax system. We benefited by the Bush II tax cuts. And if they were simply reversed, many of us would pay more. You're playing around with scarecrows without any straw. Does anyone on the left want to cut the "earned income credit" to help balance the budget? I have no idea. But we do wish to cut the military budget, reverse, as bentway suggested, the Bush II tax cuts, put an end to the "keeping money in overseas accounts", and so on.
