Hi SilentZ; Re: "Do you not see any distinction between sending information through a website to the government and posting it on a public forum? There's not a damn thing there that the DMV or IRS doesn't have.";

The lack of privacy on the internet is not about what the government has or doesn't have you dummy. It's about the process of getting the information to the government. The internet is not private.

You disagree with me? You're basically a moron. But since you know more about the subject than everyone else, why don't you go start a wikipedia war by correcting their entry on "internet security":

The Internet represents an insecure channel for exchanging information leading to a high risk of intrusion or fraud, such as phishing.

You didn't want your name, SS#, date of birth, etc., posted on a public website. Good. How long do you think it would take me to create a website apparently identical to the official one, but that logged this information? How many different ways can you think of to direct members of the public to the fake website instead of the official one?

The thing to note here is that the members of the general public don't know enough to know when they are connected to an official website as opposed to a duplicate. They don't know what internet connections are safe and which are subject to snooping. They're essentially clueless with regard to internet security.
