the USSC fought the new deal and ruled a lot of it unconstitutional. Funny you think the USSC is great because it ruled like you like on Obamacare but bad because of it's ruling on the new deal and citizen's united.

The first part of the New Deal (especially the National Recovery Administration and Agricultural Adjustment Agency) came under fire. Both the left and the right were in discontent with these programs, and both were ruled unconstitutional.

Problems with the NRA: Small business owners felts disadvantages by big big business (big business had played a major role in drafting the NRA's production codes). Organized labor felt betrayed by the promise of the NRA when business formed company unions to keep out organized labor. There was also protest that the NRA allowed for discriminatory codes to be instituted. During Schecter V United States the NRA was ruled unconstitutional.

Problems with AAA: The program hurt tenent farmers in the south. Cotton planters took federal money to remove land from production and then ordered the tenant farmers to leave. Black farmers were particularly hurt. The AAA displaced many black farmers. During United States V. Butler the AAA was ruled unconstitutional.

I was amazed to find that Republicans ran moderate/liberal candidates who were pro New Deal throughout the FDR era. Wilkie, the Republican candidate in 1940, had been been a Democrat till a couple years before and had been a delegate to the Democratic national convention in 1932.

Republicans didn't run against the New Deal till the Congressional elections of 1946 - after FDR was dead and the war was over. The slogan they used nationwide was "Had enough of the alphabet yet?" A reference to the New Deal numerous three letter programs.
