If you are looking at companies close to BK, you are probably better off running Altman Z-score and Piotroski score to check if the company still has chances. PSR definitely won't tell you much. You also have to follow latest quarter numbers closely and track things like quick ratio. Finally, this all is not 100% BK-proof. Company might just decide that it's easier to chapter 11 than to fight current battle.

I look at psr for retail companies. Dangerous though, more dangerous than usual, when media reports seem to indicate bk might be a real possibility. Took a chance back in the day with Rite Aid for a few shares back in the day, and that worked out okay. Likely had a couple that didn't work out, but I can't remember. I've no interest in JCP at current price-- it's not downtrodden enough yet for me.
