Safety net programs have their use. It doesn't eliminate poverty, but it does help those already in poverty to survive so that one day they may lift themselves out of it.

None of this should ever be confused with "wealth redistribution" or "closing the gap between rich and poor." I think you already understand that.

What I don't think you understand is how little control the government actually has in shrinking that gap. That's why you advocate returning to the 1950's where the top marginal tax rates are 90%. In essence, all you want is to prohibit people paying themselves above a certain threshold of yearly income.

Just like France.
