Just remembered another reason young people buy insurance. Kids.
Those doctor bills add up fast. And when those kids go off to school, everybody in the house gets
sick more often. Ahhhh, parenthood.

The low income folks will cover their kids with medicaid, in most states. But that's another big group of
young people who are very interested in health insurance: self employed parents who don't get group health coverage from employers.

Not true. I know of of 3 young and single people in Portland, Oregon who can afford health insurance, but don't want it because it will make them give other aspects of their life style.

I do admit it was a blanket statement on my part and that picture is grey instead of black/white with regard to the young and healthy.
